The Malvern Community Centre in Scarborough recently played host to a heartwarming event organized by JCAN's Social Connect for Seniors program. Over 120 seniors, adorned in festive red attire, filled the venue with excitement and holiday spirit.


The event commenced with a warm welcome from JCAN's President, Jacqueline Chen, setting the stage for a memorable celebration. The Honourable Gary Anadasangaree, MP, extended greetings, fostering a sense of unity among the attendees. The Executive Director of JCAN, Dr. Claudette Holloway, was met with enthusiasm as she emphasized the vital role of seniors' programming and JCAN's ambitious goal of securing a dedicated space for such initiatives.


Notable partners like the TAIBU Community Health Centre and DSI Fun Photos joined the festivities, contributing to the overall success of the event. DSI Fun Photos captured the joyous moments of the seniors through festive self-portraits and group pictures, immortalizing the spirit of the gathering.


The highlight of the celebration was the captivating performance by Joaquin Nunez Hilldago Master Drummer, whose powerful beats brought the seniors to their feet. The rhythmic drumming not only entertained but also fostered a sense of connection and engagement among the attendees.


The significance of social interaction for seniors was underscored throughout the event. Dr. Claudette Holloway emphasized that combating social isolation is crucial for improving both physical and mental health among seniors.
